Johnsonville, LLC, a strong, growing, family-owned company has great opportunity for a passionate, results-oriented environmental, health and safety leader.  The Director of Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) will strategically plan, direct, and lead the implementation of safety and environmental protection programs and policies for Johnsonville, LLC. In balance with overall business objectives and consistent with the product quality process, the successful candidate will also be responsible for advising and working with Johnsonville Safety Leaders and  Plant Coordinators on a daily basis regarding safety management, regulatory compliance and safety and environmental related operational issues.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic leadership by creating and implementing long-term safety and environmental initiatives to continuously improve company safety performance and compliance.Nurture Johnsonville’s safety culture such that each member “owns” their own safety and the safety of fellow members.
  • Make safety part of the day-to-day thinking for our members by inserting safety into every related process of our business.
  • Serve as the representative of the company for various regulatory entities, customers, suppliers and industry groups.
  • Facilitate the attainment of all safety metric goals throughout the company.
  • Continue to develop the employment brand for Johnsonville as the safest place to work.
  • Act as the functional coach for the safety leaders and the direct coach for the environmental leader.Act as the Company representative when negotiating with our insurance company on premiums and risk management costs, as well as dealing with any regulatory agency.Maintain or improve Johnsonville’s compliance with all safety and environmental regulations.
  • Keep safety coordinators and plant personnel current on world class safety standards and learning in regards to environmental and safety.
  • Work with the team to build bench strength for safety competencies and to develop future safety and environmental leaders.
  • Maintain consistent involvement in specific safety or environmental concerns at all facilities.
  • Facilitate the sharing of ideas between facilities as it relates to safety and environmental concerns.
  • Lead corporate safety efforts in all compliance areas- Process Safety Management (PSM), Crisis Management Emergency Response Planning (CMP), Enterprise Risk Management (ERM), capital improvements and workman’s compensation insurance.
  • Audit safety plan progress and compliance progress across the company.
  • Remain proactively current on government regulations in both safety and environmental areas and share your knowledge across the company.
  • Co-lead the Crisis Management Team
  • Provide innovative safety solutions and ideas.
  • Technically support the engineering team when it comes to equipment specifications, contractor safety, environmental issues and concerns.
     

Education:

  • BS or BA in Engineering, Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental Science or related technical discipline is required.
  • Master’s Degree a plus.
  • Professional certification in safety (CSP) preferred.
     

Experience:

  • A minimum of 8 years’ experience leading safety, compliance, and environmental programs in a food processing and/or light manufacturing company
  • Demonstrated ability to lead process improvements in a team environment.
     

Skills and Competencies:

  • Calm in a crisis
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven facilitation skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations.
