Assistant Safety Director

Position Summary:
Assists the Safety Director in the overall administration of corporate and project safety programs to maintain a safe work environment. Conducts work area inspections, air sampling tests and employee contractor safety training programs. Accompanies safety, health and insurance inspectors on walk-through tours. Documents all accidents, safety violations, unsafe conditions, etc.

Position Responsibilities: 

  • Develops specific objectives and strategies to maintain an effective safety program that complies with federal, state and local safety regulations.
  • Conducts comprehensive on-site safety assessments of projects and monitors corrective actions taken for deficiencies identified.
  • Participates in pre-construction and handoff meetings to identify various safety needs.
  • Assists in the development and maintenance of documentation for the Safety Manual, Field Labor Handbook, Vehicle and Equipment Operations Policy, Emergency Management Plan, Substance Abuse Policy and other policies as needed.
  • Plans and develops programs to train employees in work site safety practices.
  • Provides information, signs, posters, PPE, barriers, etc. to projects.
  • Reviews accident and incident documentation to insure all required records and reports are complete and accurate; ensures corrective action is implemented.
  • Participates in investigating all accidents resulting in lost time injuries or major property, liability or equipment damage; produces investigative reports.
  • May represent the Company at safety related hearings and/or meetings (OSHA, etc.).
  • Assists in the timely preparation and submission of various reports.
  • Maintains safety files and records; prepares reports for Safety Director as needed.
  • Develop and implement safety emergency plan drills for the Sharon Center office.
  • Maintain safety supplies at the corporate office and process project charge- backs.
  • Prepares weekly corporate safety emails and distributes tool box talks to projects.
  • Ensures company policies and procedures are understood and implemented consistently.
  • Develops and continually improves the effectiveness of the department’s procedures.
  • Communicates and reinforces the Company vision, values and goals to department staff.
  • Performs additional assignments as directed by the Safety Director.

Essential Skills and Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Safety & Health preferred.
  • Minimum 3 - 5 years safety experience.
  • Thorough understanding of all federal, state, local, and Company regulations.
  • Ability to recognize hazardous situations and implement corrective measures
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to effectively provide training to others; individuals and groups.
  • Must be willing and able to travel to various jobsites in and outside of Ohio.
  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Office Suite.
