The Construction Safety Officer will ensure that all project work is being completed safely and is adhering to the client’s Health and Safety Handbook, state and federal (OSHA) safety requirements, the client's Safety Manual, whichever is most stringent. In addition, the Safety Officer/Consultant will conduct the tasks listed below.


  • Develop and conduct initial safety orientation for all contractors and maintain training records;
  • Oversee construction activities and verify safety procedures are being followed;
  • Review contractor safety plans;
  • Regularly attend contractor led weekly Toolbox Safety meetings and collect copies of meeting minutes and attendance sheets;
  • Respond to and report on incidents including, but not limited to: safety violations, injuries, illness, near misses, equipment damage, spills, leaks, and other environmental releases;
  • Attend project management meetings at the request of the client Project Manager;
  • Advise and communicate with the client Project Manager on a regular basis regarding any situation the Safety Consultant deems unsafe or potentially hazardous; and
  • Draft project notes and reports; track and record accidents, incidents and safety issues;
  • Utilize electrical safety knowledge, including high voltage electrical knowledge for construction project oversight;
  • Utilize wastewater controls/process experience for construction project oversight.



  • 4-year degree in safety management or related field and 5-10 years of professional experience or;
  • 2-year degree in safety management plus 10 years of professional experience, or;
  • 30-hour OSHA Construction certification plus 10 years of safety experience.

Equipment and Software Skills and Competencies:
Proficiency in MS Word, Excel and Power Point; proficient in navigating OSHA, EPA and other key Environmental, Health and Safety regulations/web sites.

Must be able to conduct site walkthroughs and inspections/audits up to 4 hours at a time, to include walking and climbing up/down stairs and ladders (portable, fixed).
