Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) / DOT Manager

Summary
The Environmental Health and Safety Manager is directly responsible for providing direction, leadership, and support to company leaders to ensure the health & safety of all company employees, as well as to ensure company compliance with all applicable government regulations.

Essential Functions

  • Develops and implements processes and procedures to ensure a safe working environment for all employees.
  • Develops policies and procedures for all activities related to Safety, Environmental, and DOT compliance.
  • Maintains and updates the company’s Safety Manual.
  • Serves as the ranking company representative for external audits by regulatory agencies.
  • Keeps upraised of changes in all pertinent government regulations to ensure compliance.
  • Responsible for auditing, evaluating and reporting current compliance status.
  • Assesses safety-training needs and implements/leads safety-training programs as needed in all locations.
  • Conducts job hazard analysis for existing and new jobs within the company to identify risks and hazards to which employees may be exposed and develops hazard control programs and practices.
  • Ensures compliance with OSHA/FMCSA standards.
  • Investigates all incidents, and monitors all workers’ comp claims.
  • Conducts on-site safety, environmental, and DOT audits.
  • Monitors and measures key safety trends and causes.
  • Conducts PPE assessments and create specifications for safety supplies.
  • Ensures compliance with all governmental standards including obtaining and maintaining required permits.
  • Develops, maintains, and manages all environmental plans.
  • Prepares and maintains weekly and monthly reports, within the scope of responsibility. Reports necessary internal and external statistics and data.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position manages all employees of the department and is responsible for the performance management and hiring of the employees within that department.

Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely makes visits to facilities with varying levels of air quality, lighting, noise, odors, and temperatures.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; crouch; kneel; bend and stoop; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds.

Position Type
This is a full-time position. This position regularly requires long hours, and a willingness to be available 24/7 as needed.

Travel
Out-of-area and overnight travel are expected. Unplanned travel is expected when the need arises.

Required Education and Experience

  • An Associate's degree and five years of progressive EH&S experience, or nine years of exempt level experience in the environmental, health, and safety field.

  • Prior experience leading the safety function in an industrial or manufacturing setting.

  • Knowledge of DOT/FMCSA regulations and compliance.

Preferred Education and Experience
· A Bachelor’s degree in environmental, health & safety management.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

  • ASP, CSP, or CDS credential is desirable.
