Director of Safety & Training

  • Four (4) year degree in safety related discipline or possession of Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or similar credentials required.
  • Must have, at a minimum, five (5) years supervisory management experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • A minimum of five (5) years experience in the field of explosives/pyrotechnics is an asset.
  • Must be able to  receive clearance from ATF.
  • Be able to read, speak, and understand English language.
  • Must have comprehensive knowledge of  Department of Defense (DoD), OSHA, DOT, ATF, Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) regulations.
  • Must have knowledge of  federal, state and local environmental health and safety laws.
  • Background knowledge of Military Standards helpful.
  • Experience with ISO 14001 and ISO 9001:2015 preferred.
  • Must have strong proficiency using Microsoft Office applications.
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written skills and  be able to work and communicate well at all levels, internal and external to the organization.
  • Must have ability to work under pressure, stay organized and continuously meet deadlines.
  • Must be courteous, tactful, and objective while working to ensure that safety, quality, environmental, production, and service objectives are maintained throughout the organization.
  • Must have the ability to make judgments based on factual data and manage multiple activities.
  • Must have knowledge of all products and their operating characteristics, plant layout, plant procedures and practices and quality standards.
  • Must possess valid state driver's license.



  • Provide support for Safety & Training Manager and staff to assure compliance with internal and external requirements.
  • Act as company representative with government agencies in environmental, safety and health matter which affect the company.
  • Coordinate  environmental activities with the RFAAP Operating Contractor and act as liaison for company.
  • Lead development of and clearly communicate the company's safety vision, objectives, strategies, policies and procedures.
  • Drive awareness and accountability for environmental, health and safety performance through all levels of the organization.
  • Plan, direct and manage the safety and environmental programs, policies and procedures of the facility with focus on continual improvement.
  • Conduct, facilitate and review inspections and safety audits to ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulatory agencies and company specific regulations.
  • Prepare reports based on inspections and audit results for management team.
  • Verify that all project/facility inspections are conducted according to policy.
  • Compile and submit monthly, quarterly and annual reports required by OSHA and other Federal, State and local regulatory agencies.
  • Review, inspect and audit manufacturing and process equipment to detect existing or potential accident, potential ergonomic-related issues and health hazards, determining corrective or preventative measures where indicated and follow up to ensure measures have been implemented.
  • Review hazard assessments for accuracy and relevance to the work being performed.
  • Plan, train and implement programs to ensure that managers and employees are properly trained in work site safety practices, PPE use, ergonomics, fire prevention, hazardous waste operations and correct handling techniques for hazardous chemicals, equipment and other materials.
  • Oversee all matters concerning hazardous, universal and electronic waste materials storage, collection and disposal.
  • Conduct and/or coordinate training in areas such as safety laws and regulations, hazardous condition monitoring, and use of safety equipment.
  • Develop and/or revise ISO documentation as needed in order to comply with ISO requirements.
  • Participate in Yearly Management Review of all ISO documentation as scheduled.
  • Participate in Plant Process Control Board (PPCB) activities.
  • Develop Site Plans as required.
  • Provide technical and regulatory compliance expertise and support.
  • Participate in solicitation evaluations and Contract Reviews.
  • Complete and administer scheduled Performance Reviews for direct reports. 
  • Approve Weekly Time Sheets and requests for Vacation / Personal days for direct reports. 
  • Ensure all necessary information is conveyed to Human Resource Department in a timely manner as it relates to department.
  • Participate in the development of the Business Plan to meet company’s objectives.
  • Gather and prepare necessary information for Weekly Management Staff meetings and Quarterly Management Reviews.
  • Must be committed to ISO and the company's Quality Management System using process approach and risk based thinking methodologies.
  • Ensure the Quality Policy and quality objectives are communicated to direct report employees.
  • Share accountability for the effectiveness of the Quality Management System ensuring the Quality Policy and quality objectives are established and compatible with the context of the company.
