Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Engineer

Job Requirements:

  • B.S. Degree in Occupational Health & Safety Engineering/Management or related engineering/ technical degree program or 5-7 years’ experience in the Safety field
  • 2-5 Years manufacturing experience preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be flexible with the ability to multitask and prioritize assignments
  • Critical thinking and decision making in fast paced environment
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office and applicable applications
  • Training experience preferred

Job Description:
Actively supports environmental, health & safety (EHS) within the company. Provides consultation and technical support to the Portland operations regarding all EHS matters including but not limited to incident prevention, emergency response, regulatory/company compliance, policy/procedure development & implementation and training. Provides support to assist with EHS initiatives and special projects when requested. Serves as Emergency Response Coordinator and First Aid Responder.

1. Acts in consulting and leadership role as EHS staff resource for all departments

2. Coaches others regarding EHS matters and promotes EHS awareness among others

3. Assists with facilitation of safety engagement committee

4. Promotes safety through development and implementation of safety awareness initiatives

5. Develop and deliver training to all levels of company

6. Maintain EHS training records

7. Reviews and revises EHS procedures annually and as regulations change

8. Monitors compliance with all local, state and federal laws, OSHA Standards, pertaining to safety (i.e. OSHA, TOSHA, etc.)

9. Ensures accurate injury/illness data is maintained while reports are generated and posted in a timely manner

10. Analyze incident data to identify trends and compile presentations and reports for incident data and other EHS topics as requested

11. Assists with incident investigation and root cause analysis to reduce risk

12. Leads risk assessments and risk reduction activities

13. Performs Ergonomic assessments for new product line, line moves and after an incident

14. Manages and effectively executes all EHS Programs (Regulatory and Company)

15. Facilitates chemical approval process and ensures Safety Data Sheet (SDS) database is current

16. Works closely with Unipres Occupational Nurse and Unipres' Workers' Compensation (WC) Carrier to effectively manage WC Claims and reduce lost workdays

17. Provides additional First Aid and CPR support in place of or in conjunction with Occupational Nurse

18. Performs periodic audits to identify and eliminate EHS hazards, reduce risk and promote continuous improvements in EHS areas

19. Ensures facility compliance with all local, state and federal environmental standards

20. Performs monthly Environmental audits

21. Coordinate emergency spill response activities when needed

22. Manages emergency preparedness programs and drills

23. Other duties as assigned
