Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Manager

The Environmental, Health & Safety Manager will be responsible for the development, implementation and adoption of a Company-wide safety management program from the ground-up, ensuring compliance with Company Standards, Industry Best Practices and Regulatory Requirements. The incumbent will communicate to the CEO, National Service Manager, Manufacturing Managers and Leadership Team on actions necessary to support compliance and engage the entire team in achieving goals in a continuous improvement environment. 

Frequent travel (up to 50%) throughout the US and occasional travel to Canada is required to conduct facility audits and field audits and to work with operations leaders to ensure compliance to policy, assist with remediation plans and partner and assist with investigating incidents. 

This position will require you to occasionally work varying shifts/holidays as required in support of emergency response and/or customer needs.

The successful candidate would be responsible for carrying out the following duties:

  • Designing, developing, implementing and overseeing the organization's environmental, health and safety programs and procedures;  
  • Arranging site safety plans and champions safe working conditions;    
  • Putting in place safety regulations and safe work practices;  
  • Coordinating hazard assessments;  
  • Investigating work related accidents/incidents and filing reports in a timely manner;
  • Ensuring employees in functional areas follow established procedures and comply with federal, state/provincial and local regulations;
  • Providing input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility;
  • Maintaining and filing all permits/reporting related to EHS (including DOT, RCRA, OSHA, MSHA, CERCLA, TSCA and Federal/State/Provincial/Local Regulations) as required internally or by customers/regulators;
  • Reviewing subcontractors documentation for efficiency and providing feedback    
  • Managing EHS activity in relation to transportation, storage and disposal of waste and recycling materials;
  • Managing solid/liquid waste, universal waste & SPCC plans and corrective actions as necessary;
  • Managing Workers Compensation claims and return to work process;
  • Coordinating and administering pre-employment, random, post-accident and reasonable suspicion drug and alcohol testing where applicable;
  • Auditing job safety analysis and confined space permits on an on-going basis;
  • Conducting new worker safety orientation with respect to training safety to subcontractor;   
  • Planning safety meeting and toolbox talks;      
  • Preparing reports and documentations on all accidents, incidents, and injuries;   
  • Developing, facilitating and maintaining all required training material and training databases for both Internal and external constituents;
  • Managing industrial hygiene standards and recommending improvement actions;
  • Organizing and maintaining Material Safety Data Sheet library for all the controlled products.


Required qualifications:

  • An undergraduate degree in safety or environment or related field;
  • A minimum of 7 years’ experience in progressively more complex health and safety roles;
  • A minimum of 5 of the 7 years’ experience must be in an Environmental or Industrial Services Industry;
  • A minimum of 2 of the 7 years must be in a health and safety leadership role such as supervisor or lead;
  • Working knowledge of waste regulations on state/provincial and federal levels;
  • Working knowledge of relevant OSHA, MSHA, DOT, RCRA and TSCA regulations;
  • Previous experience interacting with regulatory inspectors including accompanying regulators on inspections;
  • Previous experience conducting presentations and facilitating training sessions;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate on all levels within an industrial work environment;
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a demonstrated ability to think out-of-the-box;
  • Ability to prioritize, influence and manage multiple tasks/projects and meeting all required deadlines;
  • Strong sense of urgency in meeting customer needs;
  • Above average computer skills (Microsoft Office);
  • Above average ability to compile EHS related data in a meaningful manner;
  • Detailed-oriented with strong organizational skills;
  • Ability to address and enforce compliance related matters in a professional, tactful and diplomatic manner that encourages a positive health & safety culture.


  • Certified Safety Professional or equivalent;
  • Experience working as a first responder;
  • Previous experience working in a multi-facility environment;
  • Previous working experience and/or knowledge with Canadian health & safety regulations.
