Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Manager

Job Requirements:


1. Bachelor’s Degree (Engineering, Safety or related Technical Program) or equivalent experience with a minimum of 5 years in Automotive operations or other heavy mfg. industry.

2. Must have previous supervisory/management experience

3. Excellent people/communication skills required.

4. Must have satisfactory attendance and safety record

5. Knowledge of employment law and EHS regulations (DOT, EPA, OSHA/TOSHA, TDEC, etc.) required

Job Description:
This position will provide full time environmental, health and safety leadership responsibilities to the Unipres, USA, Inc. facilities in Portland, TN and Smyrna, TN.,
ensuring that all practices are in compliance with OSHA and other local and federal agencies, and is responsible for all regulatory programs and permit applications. This position will also develop and administer all EHS training requirements and strives to implement and coordinate programs to create a “zero injury” culture.

1. Coordinate all EHS activities for the Portland and Smyrna facilities, leading effort to improve safety culture, reduce injuries, and ensure regulatory compliance

2. Work daily with the Production, Quality, Maintenance, and Production Control Departments, identifying and analyzing hazards and working collaboratively to address gaps and improvement opportunities

3. Keep associates and management alerted to known hazards in the production environment, providing guidance for correcting/eliminating such hazards

4. Collects and analyzes data derived from atmospheric monitoring, soil or water samples, etc.

5. Determines the need for environmental permits and completes applications as required

6. Maintains effective relationships with outside organizations, such as local city officials, fire departments, hospitals, etc.; representing the Company in the community or industry environmental groups and programs

7. Fosters an open door policy with prompt response/follow-up

8. Responsible to drive continuous improvement/cost reductions in area of responsibility and manage with minimum supervision

9. Must use teambuilding techniques, providing direction and effective feedback

10. Must interact and communicate effectively with all levels of the organization, including reporting and presenting information

11. Provide leadership to gain goal of zero accidents

12. Ensure site Safety Engagement Committee meets regularly, set agenda for meetings, perform safety audits and other tasks as appropriate

13. Observe personally and enforce all UNIPRES rules and regulations for all associates

14. Investigate safety issues, assist in initiating countermeasures, follow-up and document countermeasures

15. Maintain satisfactory work area through implementation of 5S

16. Develop cost reduction activities within covered area, reporting as required

17. Lead by example in attendance and accountability, demonstrate ability and willingness to perform a variety of duties with often changing priorities

18. Establish work procedures to meet production schedules, quality and delivery of the business needs

19. Communicate with the HR department to resolve associate safety concerns is essential

20. Responsible for making sure new employees/transfers are trained effectively

21. Uses practices of fair and consistent treatment to all subordinates in all situations

22. Other job duties as assigned by Management
