Assistant/Associate Professor for Environmental Health and Safety

The School of Health Sciences at Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan, invites qualified persons with a passion for Environmental Health and Safety to apply for a full-time tenure-track position at the level of Associate or Assistant Professor within our department of Public and Environmental Wellness, rank and salary dependent upon qualifications.

The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) faculty offers undergraduate (BS), graduate (MS) and dual (BS-MS) degree programs within the department of Public and Environmental Wellness (PEW). “Pursuing society’s big health challenges,” the PEW department provides an outstanding educational and research environment within which to create impact by “transforming students into leaders, connecting theory to best practices, and impacting the health needs of all people in diverse communities".

Translating knowledge and theory, our EHS programs ensure the use of best practices in identifying, evaluating and eliminating or controlling hazards, which expose people, property or the environment to danger or harm. While our programs are available fully online, we also offer well-equipped physical laboratories. Faculty areas of expertise and specialization include environmental standards and controls, industrial hygiene, industrial and robotics safety, electrical systems, construction safety, safety systems management, fire safety, biomechanics, and ergonomics, inclusive of EHS program leadership and development, within the broader context of public health and wellness.

The successful candidate is expected to initiate and maintain a successful program of research, scholarship, and service. The desired candidate will demonstrate a commitment to professional ethics in the pursuit of experimental, translational, and/or community-based research. Attainment of the CSP (Certified Safety Professional) or other professional designation or recognition is desired (e.g. CIH, CHMM). Candidates with experience and interest in continuous program improvement and accreditation, and leadership in academia, community engagement, and further program development, are especially encouraged to apply.
