Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Technician

Job Summary
Develops, implements, and monitors company environmental safety programs and policies to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations. Maintains safety equipment inventory, performs periodic safety inspections, monitors hazardous waste removal vendors, and may assist in consolidating hazardous wastes. Interacting with a variety of departments, conducts training in emergency response and hazardous material handling. Monitors environmental compliance and maintains liaison with appropriate regulatory agencies. Recommends corrective action where environmental health and safety hazards exist.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Promotes workplace safety, and assists in the development, maintenance, and management of EH&S programs at the site, including proactive incident and illness prevention, respiratory protection, contractor safety, and hazardous chemical management
  • Participates in developing, implementing and managing site-specific EH&S policies, programs and practices
  • Works on programs materials to train supervisors and employees to meet safety standards and enhance the Company's safety culture
  • Assists with new employee safety orientation and periodic safety training
  • Assists with the recordkeeping and manuals for the EH&S Program at the site (including but not limited to: OSHA, DOT, FDA, DHS and Local Emergency Planning Coordinators)
  • Assists with investigations and responds to employee safety concerns, unemployment claims, and workers compensation claims to provide customer service
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Required Skills / Capabilities

  • Must have strong organizational skills to operate independently with considerable initiative, applying a high level of discretion, sound judgment, and confidentiality
  • Must be able to interpret, correlate and implement programs that maintain compliance with rules, laws and regulations
  • Rotate in an on-call schedule as to respond and resolve issues outside of normal business hours
Education and Experience
  • Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 2 years of related experience; or an advanced degree without experience; or equivalent work experience
  • Requires bachelor’s degree in environmental health or a related field
  • Preferred 1+ years of experience in the field of Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S)
