This position will be located at our Preferred Sands of Monahans plant near Monahans, TX.

Position Overview:
The Environmental Specialist evaluates compliance with federal, state, local statutes and regulations. Collects samples and data; conducts analysis in support of applicable environmental regulation. Prepares and distributes monthly, quarterly and annual reports. 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform inspections and incident investigations, conduct audits, prepare reports, handle facility permitting and interact with regulatory agencies, consultants and vendors.
  • Execute and manage permitting and regulatory compliance associated with the operation.
  • Prepare and ensure compliance with environmental permits and related plans including storm water pollution prevention plans (SWPPP), spill prevention, control and counter measures (SPCC) plans.
  • Perform environmental compliance audits and implement follow-up corrective actions to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Prepares reports, plans and permits required to comply with federal, state, local statues and regulations.
  • Collects samples and data and conducts analysis and calculations required for reports and plans.
  • Performs environmental audits and field inspections. Assists with EPA and other regulatory agency inspections and information requests. Prepares reports detailing audit findings. Recommends changes in operations to ensure compliance.
  • Provides technical guidance to enhance operations. Establishes operating guidelines. Develops and implements testing and sampling systems to assure compliance.
  • Train site staff on responsibilities associated with air quality management, storm water controls, fuel and HAZMAT storage and handling, zoning regulations, and other compliance topics.
  • Assist Operations with implementation of policies and Environmental Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Ensures compliance with air, waste and/or water regulations.
  • May coordinate off-site transportation, disposal, treatment, or recycling of waste. Includes establishing contacts, manifesting, and other regulatory required documentation.
  • Serves as a member of 24/7 Emergency Response Team.
  • Implement Best Management Practices.
  • Participate in environmental regulatory inspections.
  • Promote positive relationships with the public.
  • Assist with incident investigation and analysis.
  • Record keeping and documentation.
  • Other duties as assigned. 


  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required.  Bachelor degree in Environmental Studies, Political Science, Environmental Studies or related field strongly preferred.
    Ability to interpret local, state, and federal environmental standards and experience implementing regulatory requirements.
  • Two to three years of experience in Environmental, Health and Safety preferred.
  • Adequate knowledge of federal and state environmental, safety and health regulations and laws by OSHA, MSHA, USEPA, and corresponding state and local agencies.
  • Familiarity with traditional and modern training methods, tools and techniques.
  • Interpersonal skills to work successfully within a team-based system.
  • Must have strong oral and written communication skills and must be able to effectively present information to others.
  • Proficient computer skills to include MS Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point.
  • Proven leadership skill and team building skills, ability to build consensus, rally support around common goals and to motivate groups and individuals.
  • Ability to be flexible, work with interruptions and shift priorities as required; willingness to work weekend and nights shifts if needed.
  • Strong project management skills, highly organized and capable of effective, efficient multi-tasking and time management.
  • Flexibility to work effectively in a changing environment. Ability to adapt to changes in work environment, work assignments and/or changes in priorities.
