Environmental Specialist

Responsible for coordinating daily production activities so as to meet business objections. General expectations include staying focused on identified goals and drive results; set clear expectations for team; coach, develop and motivate team; hold employees accountable and keep team informed by ensuring effective inter and intra department communication.

Job Summary:

Oversee and maintain the facility environmental regulatory permits & written programs. Serve as Process Safety Management (PSM) coordinator for the facility.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as coordinator for facility’s Risk Management Program (RMP) Process Safety Management (PSM) program for Anhydrous Ammonia
  • Coordinate and maintain environmental permitting so that all required permits are accurate and appropriate.
  • Oversee and maintain all environmental regulatory permits & programs for the Sacramento facility including permitting, inspections and submittals for Air, Stormwater, Wastewater, Boilers, Water Usage, Energy Usage, Waste Hauler Permits, Hazardous Waste Disposal & Tracking, Universal Waste Disposal & Tracking, SPCC (oil), Recycling, Sustainability Reporting, GHG tracking, and Tier II / Form R reporting.
  • Issue regular reports on status of all environmental programs and permits
  • Work with and become a representative on Sacramento County’s Local Emergency Planning Committee 
  • Give direction to and training to all employees and departments as they are impacted by or affected the ammonia and environmental programs.
  • Work with Local, State and Federal regulatory agencies including Frederick County, VA DEQ, U.S. EPA and U.S. Dept. of Homeland Security to ensure all environmental aspects, impacts, programs and permits are accepted and understood to be compliant. 


Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, at a minimum an Associate’s degree is required but can be substituted for 3 year(s) of related environmental experience or PSM experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience


Skills and Competencies:

  • Job Knowledge: Displays knowledge of Virginia Environmental Regulatory Programs including Process Safety Management
  • Planning/Organizing: Ability to work with and give direction to all departments where they affect or are impacted by the environmental programs
  • Quality: Looks for ways to improve and promote quality
