Health, Safety and Environmental Technician (EHS)

Health, Safety and Environmental Technician II - HSE - Biotech

You will be responsible for HSE - Health Safety and Environmental aspects of KBI Biopharma staff and facilities at our North Carolina location. 

Job Description:

  • You will interface with staff and be highly visibility in all work spaces, particularly the laboratories, to support a positive, practical, safe and compliant work environment.
  • Interface with management such as with system owners or area managers to provide status reports, plan program activities and review HSE program effectiveness.
  • Regular self-audits and external client or regulatory inspections of systems as required by HSE procedures or programs.
  • Respond to injuries and incidents, direct all reporting, follow up investigations and remediation, and maintain regulatory reporting systems.
  • Represent KBI during all regulatory inspections including OSHA, EPA, DENR, DOL and client audits. Assure staff and site are operating in a compliant manner.
  • HSE Procedures: Draft, review and revise HSE systems, including policies, procedures and manuals to ensure that HSE practices promote safe and compliant behavior.
  • Employee Training: Provide training as needed for HSE programs.
  • Assess PPE solutions: for each task. Provide training as needed and monitor use.
  • Maintain HSE records including but not limited to MSDSonline, waste management, chemical inventory, training records, environmental permits, inspections, and testing.
  • Manage all waste activities including storage, treatment, disposal and record keeping. Maintain business relationships with associated waste handling vendors.
  • Emergency Preparedness: Manage and maintain HSE supplies, equipment, materials and training as specified by HSE procedures or programs.
  • Contractor Safety: Ensure that all permits, training, PPE and behaviors (hot work, fall protection, confined space, lock out/tag out, etc.) are observed by contractors on site.


Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in an occupational health and safety related field preferred. 
  •  3 -5 years of experience working in an HSE Role. 
  • Waste Management experience required including: RCRA, regulated medical waste and recycling programs.
  • Experience with Laboratory Operations safety.
  • Experience in a cGMP manufacturing environment: biotech, pharmaceutical or medical device industries.
  • Relevant training and/or certification in regulated safety and environmental activities such as:
    • DOT hazardous materials shipping,
    • First Aid/CPR/AED
    • 30 hr. General Industry OSHA Certification
    • 40 hr. HAZWOPER certification, etc.
