Job Description Summary
The Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality (HSEQ) Engineer is primarily responsible for developing, instituting and leading HSEQ procedures, establishing management systems, and ensuring regulatory and quality compliance at the Chromium LTP sites located in Amarillo (TX), Dakota City (NE), and Milwaukee (WI). This position will work closely with the Chromium operations, engineering, and commercial team, as well as, quality and HSE at the corporate level. The deliverable will be to assess ongoing operations and drive needed change for maintaining high standards of performance for personnel and chromium products.

Health, Safety & Environmental

  • Knowledgeable of 29 CFR 1910 regulations (DOT a plus), industrial hygiene standards (chromium a plus)
  • Basic understanding of air permitting, requirements for operating pollution control equipment, RCRA regulations
  • Perform and document plant safety walkthroughs/audits and implement corrections and improvements to safety issues
  • Manage and maintain safety & environmental related documentation
  • Develop and lead health & safety training programs
  • Complete and document personal protection equipment (PPE) assessments
  • Ensures strict adherence to procedures both onsite and offsite activities
  • Investigate accidents/incidents and manages the timely completion of corrective actions and closure of reports
  • Effectively works with Chromium operations & engineering to identify and reduce health & safety, as well as, process safety risks
  • Develop & implement behavior based safety initiatives to drive proactive culture for identifying hazards and measures to prevent work related injuries & illnesses


Quality

  • Establish and maintain quality management system (QMS) at the 3 LTP sites to meet requirements of ISO 9001 standard
  • Ensure Basic Quality Process (BQP) is established, implemented and maintained
  • Report to Global Quality Director on the performance of the QMS and any need for improvements
  • Collaborate with manufacturing on resolving process/quality issues
  • Review product and material nonconformances with manufacturing and Sales
  • Control further processing or delivery of non-conforming product until the deficiencies or unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected.
  • Control and disposition nonconforming product lots in accordance with established procedures
  • Promote awareness of customer requirements throughout the organization
  • Ensure internal audits are scheduled, performed, documented and actions taken to correct and prevent nonconformances
  • Report and prevent occurrence of any non-conformity relating to the product, process, and quality system.
  • Provide facility operations management with Quality Systems data and feedback to assist in the decision making process by highlighting target areas for improvements
  • Manage Internal Audit, Corrective and Preventative Action and Document Control programs in accordance with established procedures.
  • Lead resolution of customer complaints and ensure corrective actions are implemented
  • Provide technical and statistical expertise to teams. Implement and facilitate use of statistical process control (SPC)


Knowledge/ Experience/ Skills required

  • B.S. degree preferably in Chemical Engineering with 2-3 years of quality/safety experience
  • Strong communication and process improvement skills are required
  • Complete understanding and adherence to safety, health, and environmental rules and regulations
  • Knowledge of ISO standards (9001 and 14001)
  • Internal auditor training preferred
  • Knowledge of Statistical Process Control
  • Ability to collaborate with and influence people outside direct reporting
  • Proficient user of computer equipment. This includes Microsoft Windows, Lotus Notes, Word, Excel, printers, and ERP software
