Lead Process Safety (PSM) Engineer

The Center for Chemical Process Safety is an AIChE Technological Alliance. CCPS is a not-for-profit, corporate membership organization within AIChE that identifies and addresses process safety needs for a variety of facilities involved with handling, storing, using or processing, and transporting hazardous materials. CCPS brings together manufacturers, government agencies, consultants, academia and insurers to lead the way in improving industrial process safety. CCPS member companies, working in project subcommittees, define and develop useful, time-tested guidelines that have practical application within industry.  The project topics run the gamut of areas important to manufacturers and range from human factor issues to qualitative and quantitative risk analysis to security vulnerability to inherently safer design. With over 100 publications to date, CCPS remains at the forefront of issues relevant to industry. 

Position Summary:
The successful Lead Process Safety Engineer/Project Manager will be responsible advancing various CCPS projects & Programs, working closely with various staff, staff consultants and project teams. The incumbent will lead / execute important projects related to process safety, including leading key business / technical / process improvement initiatives assigned by the CCPS Director of Projects.  All activities will require leveraging the technical knowhow about Process Safety. The position is expected to require up to 15% travel, including international travel. Some telecommuting is available. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Act as a champion for the missions of AIChE and CCPS.
  • Work across AIChE's and CCPS's matrixed structure to ensure work processes are efficient and effective
  • Lead and manage projects / programs to budget, schedule, quality and scope


Project management for various CCPS initiatives, including but not limited to:
 

  • CCPS publications
  • Ongoing ever-green programs
  • Training & Workshops
  • Credentialing
  • SAChE e-learning courses and CCPS e-learning and instructor lead courses
  • Software and web based product development, maintenance & user support
  • Define, justify and implement new business growth ideas
  • Act as Staff liaison for one or more divisions and committees
  • Review and respond to technical questions / request on LinkedIn and CCPS Website.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director - CCPS projects. 


Education/Experience:

  • BS in chemical engineering required or related discipline, with strong knowledge of process safety required. MS degree preferred
  • 10-20 years of experience in industry (Chemical, Petrochemical, Refining, Oil & Gas, Pharma etc.)
  • CCPS Certified (CCPSC) Process Safety Professional, Professional Engineering (PE), Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or other appropriate certification.
  • Good understanding of AIChE / CCPS and the workings of its volunteer structure, or prior experience working within a similar environment.
  • Excellent written and communication skills
  • Strong conflict resolution and negotiation skills
  • Superior project management and time management skills; strong attention to details
  • Must be able to work independently or a part of a teamAdvanced knowledge and proficiency with MS Word, PowerPoint, MS Excel, and web based productivity tools required.
  • Intercultural fluency and sensitivity
  • Foreign language skills a plus - Spanish, Chinese, German and/or Portuguese.
