Manager of Risk, Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) 1248

Our client is recruiting for a Manager of Risk, Environmental, Health and Safety in Austin, TX, job 1248. This is a full-time position as an employee of our client. Relocation assistance possible within the US.

Job Purpose:
Reporting to the President of the company, the incumbent will be responsible for designing, developing and ultimately implementing the Corporate vision Zero Harm. This includes the management and overall direction and oversight of EHS staff, programs, strategy and related organizational performance standards to support this Vision.

Candidates must have ALL of the following Minimum Requirements: 

  • Authorized to work for any employer in the United States, employer sponsorship is not available.
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited College / University in Environmental Health & Safety, Engineering, Business, Industrial Management or related discipline
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
  • Risk Management Certification such as Associate in Risk Management (ARM) or Construction Risk Insurance Specialist (CRIS)
  • 15 or more years of EHS leadership experience in a corporate environment with 10 or more years of EHS management experience in heavy civil construction environments
  • Demonstrated success handling Risk Management in, but not limited to, OCIP, CCIP and Captive / Self Insured organizations
  • Demonstrated success designing, directing and managing comprehensive Environmental processes and programs including, but not limited to, CAA, CWA, RCRA, SARA
  • Demonstrated success in utilizing leading and lagging KPIs resulting in driving health and safety metrics lower
  • Demonstrated experience management Workers’ Comp programs
  • Demonstrated success as a change agent

Additional Preferred (not required) Competencies: 

  • 20 or more years of EHS management experience in heavy civil construction organizations
  • MBA or Master’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering or related discipline

Major Responsibilities: 

  • Partner with corporate executive management providing leadership to achieve the goal of Zero Harm and serve as Subject Matter Expert (SME) regarding interpretation of federal, state and local EHS regulations including guidance and operational reports required to accomplish corporate goals
  • Align corporate and local EHS goals and strategies
  • Lead, develop and manage local EHS staff members
  • Facilitate EHS audits and inspections developing remediation plans as needed
  • Act as a company spokesperson when required
  • Lead multi-media environmental compliance including, but not limited to: Water (waste, storm); Waste (hazardous and non-hazardous); Air (internal respiratory and external emissions)
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with federal, state and local regulators
  • Lead Continuous Improvement initiative regarding EHS policies and programs
  • Manage budgetary responsibilities
  • Maintain and ensure compliance with all relevant federal, state and local EHS regulations
  • Lead employee training programs regarding EHS behaviors and compliance
