Manager, Safety and Security

January 19, 2022
Brooklyn, New York

Upward Farms designs and operates complete ecosystems of plants and fish in vertical farms, supplying these organic products to local grocers. We recently expanded, opening a new cutting edge, fully automated facility in Brooklyn. More and larger farms are in the works. Our mission is to heal the broken food system and reconnect eaters with flavorful and nutritious local food.

At Upward Farms, we produce food at the highest ecological and quality standards, so that everyone can nourish their body, family and the planet.

As a Safety and Security Manager you will partner with Upward Farms leaders to oversee the design and implementation of key Environment, Health and Safety policies, processes and tools. You will join us in creating a compliant (e.g. OSHA, EPA, etc.) workplace where employees thrive. You will also manage the physical security of our locations, and design and implement security needs at future facilities. As a new role and an emerging team within our organization, you will shape the vision, strategy, and composition of our Safety and Security function at Upward Farms.

You will report to the senior Operations leadership, collaborate with the Facilities + Maintenance Manager, Software & Electronics team, and work closely with and Chief Executive Officer + Cofounder, Chief of Staff, and other leaders from across the company.

Your objective is to manage and direct Upward Farms in achieving EHS and security targets and objectives. You will develop and implement robust EHS and security policies and practices that drive and promote a zero incident EHS culture across multiple sites, alongside the physical security of those sites. Of particular importance to Upward Farms will be your ability to facilitate risk assessments to identify critical EHS hazards.

During this period of extraordinary growth, safety and security are critical and rapidly evolving functions within our organization.
