Operations Training Safety Specialist

Position Purpose & Summary: 
A Training Safety Specialist is an hourly stakeholder who meets the qualifications of the job and reports to the Operations Superintendents with oversight from the Operations Manager.  The Training specialist works closely with production supervisors and superintendents to evaluate training needs, and stakeholder performance to ensure all employees are fully trained for their positions.
 
Principal Accountabilities: 
Evaluate training needs for specific areas of the operation based on current needs of the operations team and do targeted training to improve safety and performance.
 
Examples: 
When the following types of events happen the trainer will take on the assignment to provide targeted training to individuals in the impacted position - Ergo issues with packing, FO events that are caused by improper setup of equipment, heavy patty weights at formax, packing speed and accuracy, formulation errors etc. 
 
20%:
Partner with supervisors to proactively identify individuals that need additional training - Provide input to supervisors on employee performance by recognizing high performance and development opportunities in stakeholders
 
20%: 
Spend time on the line (2-3 shifts/week) on different rotations to maintain current understanding of opportunities and challenges with different job tasks, and also use this time to identify strengths and opportunities of stakeholders. Ideally the trainer would be cross trained in all positions on the line.
 
20%: 
Close follow up with new employees as they ramp in to make sure they are transitioning into their job in a safe manner and learning their new skills, manage documentation of ramp in progress
 
10%:
Lead all aspects of the new employee orientation program - develop agenda, speakers, content, coordinate orientation
 
10%:
Manage JTPs: ensure stakeholders understand and follow JTPs, review and update as needed
 
10%:
Manage forklift process/program, Conduct annual Authorized Stakeholder Lock Out/Tag Out Audits, Behavior Based

  • Safety Training/observer as well as conduct training within 90 probationary period

10%:
Participate in continuous improvement events such as RCA's to understand and stay current with issues that are caused by training gaps and lead the corrective actions to close gaps.

  • Additional tasks completed and ongoing
  • Be a safety leader on the floor
  • Manage Training Matrix and documentation
     
Required Qualifications:

  • 2 - 4 years of production experience
  • Ability to lead without authority
  • Working knowledge of all the equipment and production process
  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word
  • Comfortable speaking to groups of people
  • Must be able to read and write English
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Organizational skills

Preferred:

  • Must be bilingual
  • Past training experience desired
