Process Safety Management (PSM) Specialist

 Houston area

Position Summary:  Responsible for identifying and implementing Process Safety Management (PSM) programs, improving existing PSM programs and strengthening overall performance at manufacturing facility, and assuring compliance with global PSM regulations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct Process Safety Management audits to ensure compliance with PSM/RMP standards
  • Conduct/Manage the Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) process at all locations. This includes training of facilitators, scheduling of PHA’s, application of Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA) and Safety Integrity Level (SIL) techniques and tracking of results reports and corrective action items
  • Share PSM best practices among sites, actively participate in PSM global team calls
  • Define and provide input to plants concerning recognized and generally accepted good engineering practices (RAGAGEP) such as NFPA, ASME, API, and NEC
  • Partner with Site Operations and Technical Mangers to provide process safety support and align site procedures/processes to corporate PSM programs
  • Define and implement standard work processes to ensure effective site execution of all PSM elements, including PSM training and operating procedures, inherent safety design procedures, HAZOP, etc. at all facilities
  • Lead process safety programs for Responsible Care
  • Responsible for overall health of PSM programs


Education and other requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Science; Mater's degree preferred
  • 5 years’ PSM experience in a chemical manufacturing plant/environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of regulatory compliance standards, 29 CFR 1910 series and 40 CFR 68 with Emphasis on Process Safety Elements and Risk Management program elements
  • PHA Trained Team Leader and PSM Trained Auditor
