Process Safety Manager

Georgia-Pacific is hiring a Process Safety Manager at our Alabama River Cellulose (ARC) location. This position reports directly to the Safety and Health Manager.

As one of six world-class mills in the GP Cellulose business, Alabama River Cellulose is a fully integrated pulp mill producing specialty fluff and market pulp for a variety of high-end uses and converting technologies. We are also manufacture quality hardwood and softwood pulps, knowns as Golden Isles Fluff.  Our products are used in applications ranging from paper products, diapers, hygiene products, and specialty applications including textiles, pharmaceuticals, food, paints and plastic molding components. A Day In The Life Typically Includes:

  • Provides leadership and direction to achieve the process safety vision through management commitment and employee ownership.
  • Works collaboratively with the mill’s process safety engineer to complement on-going efforts
  • Provides routine communication to mill management regarding process safety plans and issues impacting the mill.
  • Facilitates process safety ownership by the line organization through integration of the S&H Management System.
  • Leads and / or facilitates risk assessments at the facility for anticipating, identifying and evaluating hazards.
  • Leads and / or evaluates the quality of Process Hazard Analyses (PHA) for the mill.
  • Assists S&H leadership with the development of short and long-term process safety objectives, targets, strategies, and measures that prioritize and mitigate risks.
  • Provides analysis of process safety incidents and near misses to assure sustainable corrective actions are implemented.
  • Ensures the development, improvement, and implementation of training systems to meet the needs of the facility utilizing qualified instructors. 
  • Ensures there is a system in place to monitor process safety compliance.
  • Ensures there is a system in place to sustain and improve process safety performance.
  • Develops plans to grow process safety skills and knowledge across the Facility
  • Lead problem solving teams in a plant manufacturing environment.
  • Work effectively with all levels of the organization
  • Possess strong communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities to achieve goals
     

What You Will Need:
Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in chemical or mechanical engineering, or other engineering or technical field
  • +3 years of experience in a process safety role or engineering role within a PSM regulated operation
  • Working knowledge of Process Safety regulations, specifically 29 CFR 1910.119 and 40 CFR 68
  • Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) leadership experience
     

What Will Put You Ahead:
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Supervisory experience within a chemical, petrochemical, or pulp/paper mill in operations, technical, or mechanical integrity role
  • More than five years’ experience in a process safety role or equivalent engineering experience within a PSM regulated operation
  • Professional Engineer (PE) and/or Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
  • Experience in the pulp & paper industry
  • Knowledge of how manufacturing processes work and basic equipment operation within the processes.
