Responsible Care Manager

Position Summary: The Responsible Care Manager (RC Manager) is responsible for providing direction and leadership for Responsible Care (RC) and Quality Management (ISO 9001) programs for Marketing & Logistics in North America (NAML).

The RC Manager ensures all Responsible Care and Quality Management systems are developed and managed in compliance with the Company’s overall corporate objectives, applicable Responsible Care Codes of Practice and ISO standards and is responsible for leading the Company’s Workplace Health & Safety, Security and Social Responsibility programs.

This position also provides interpretation of applicable legislation, regulation and international standards and expert advice on emergency response preparedness including transportation emergency preparedness and management of the company’s methanol MSDS program.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Ensure the NAML Responsible Care Management and NAML Quality Management Systems are fully developed and aligned with appropriate Codes of Practice/company policy and routinely audited to support RC re-verification, including ISO 9001 Quality Standards;
• Develop and execute the annual NAML Responsible Care plan ensuring needs of both internal and external requirements are successfully met; Serve as primary contact for regulatory authorities and industry associations as relates to Responsible Care in the US and Canada.
• Promote Responsible Care ethic to customers and suppliers; coordinate and lead RC & methanol safety seminars as agreed with the sales and operational teams.
• Provide assistance in responding to customer inquiries; coordinate agreed RC-related assessments for customers, suppliers, terminals, surveyors and carriers; and provide internal and external RC training.
• Work with manufacturing location(s) to support RC and Safety improvement at the methanol handling terminals
• As a member of the Global Marketing & Logistics Responsible Care Team (GMLRCT), provide high quality support to ensure annual objectives are met.
• Carrying out internal and external audits as necessary.
• Lead the development of regional crisis management plans and coordinate internal training as required.
• Promote continuous improvement through customer/supplier best practices sharing; program enhancements, training, and leadership.
• Lead and develop regional programs related to Work Place Health & Safety, Security and Social Responsibility

Education and experience required:

• Undergraduate degree in Engineering (e.g. Chemical, Environmental, Safety or Process Engineering) OR other science/technically based degree required
• Experience in HSE and Responsible Care operations in the chemicals or petrochemical industry. Experience with managing Responsible Care and/or HSE program in a bulk petrochemical production or storage facility is an asset.
• Qualification in auditing techniques for both Responsible Care and ISO 9001 standard are essential in order to carry out the duties of the position. Knowledge of ISO 14001 a plus.
• Expertise in crisis management, emergency preparedness and response
• Required leadership and management skills include the ability to motivate and influence others, self-motivation, and a focus on team work and emphasis on continuous improvement
• Proficient communication and interpersonal skills are required. For communication, must be able to structure the communication to the level of the target audience including customers, contractors, and corporate headquarters. Must handle public speaking with ease and comfort.
• Intermediate level of PC proficiency with familiarity with several types of applications, e.g., MS Word, Excel
• Good critical thinking, deductive reasoning, interpretative and decision-making skills.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• Approximately 30% Travel; valid and up to date passport is required
