Safety Director for National Construction Division

Herzog Contracting Corp. is currently seeking a Safety Director for our National Construction Division in the St. Joseph, MO/Dallas, TX area.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Function successfully as a safety leadership team member in accomplishing the team’s overall objectives
  • Employ company’s guiding principles when working with internal and external customers
  • Provide safety leadership to all construction and maintenance of systems projects through project / function safety managers and coordinators
  • Work with division leadership and corporate safety manager to ensure a healthy safety culture and implementation of strategic safety initiatives
  • Ensure complete tracking, compilation, and dissemination of safety data across the National Construction scope of work to establish safety targets, corrective actions, and strategic safety goals
  • Coordinate with Training and Development Department to ensure employees are properly equipped and trained to conduct operations in a safe and compliant manner
  • Report quarterly safety performance to company leadership during executive meetings.
  • Travel to National Construction project locations and operations properties to engage field personnel and local leadership in support of company performance safety management system
  • Serve as regulatory compliance subject matter expert in areas such as OSHA, FRA, FTA, EPA
  • Reports to the Corporate Safety Manager/Executive Vice President of National Construction
  • All other duties as assigned


Travel Requirements:

  •  40% travel possible



  • Experience in OSHA, FRA, and EPA compliance programs, preferred
  • Experience in a leadership role, preferred
  • Experience in construction safety management, preferred
  • Certified safety professional, preferred but not required
  • Bachelor’s degree in process or construction safety management, preferred, but not required
  • Experience as a railroad/construction safety trainer, preferred, but not required
  • Current or former member of a national construction safety committee is a plus
  • Excelling problem solving, planning, and organization skills
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to support and implement organizational change
  • Ability to function independently in a multi-task environment


Pre-Employment Requirements:

  • Pass and maintain e-RAILSAFE pre-employment background check and safety certification.
  • Subject to motor vehicle report review.
  • Maintain valid driver’s license and endorsements as required per position.
  • Pass pre-employment physical, medical evaluation, and drug screen due to the safety sensitive nature of this position
  • Successfully complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing on an annual basis.
