Safety & Health Specialist 4

This position reports to the Risk/Internal Safety & Health Program Manager (WMS Band II) and is a designated safety and health technical expert within the Internal Safety & Health Program.

Responsibilities include updating, developing, implementing, and conducting training programs, guidelines and publications with specialized safety & health program competencies for eLearning and classroom course curriculum. This training will support Internal Safety and Health (ISH) strategies to ensure agency compliance with all applicable safety and health standards such as Federal OSHA and WA L&I DOSH rules including specific areas of program expertise such as hazard recognition, emergency management, security, workplace violence prevention, defensive driving and ergonomics.

This position works with all levels of agency personnel and serves as the central point of contact for safety and health training assigned to agency staff, programs and divisions. This position will also coordinate with the L&I Office of Human Resources (OHR) to develop, implement, maintain and oversee the safety training and certification programs for ISH and the Administrative Services Division (ASD).

This position will also develop systems and reporting structures for safety-related performance metrics, development of a safety dashboard, and coordination with the Safety Council to support data-driven proposals and decisions.

Duties

Some of what you will do:

  • Evaluate, audit, develop and implement currently available and new training strategies for delivering Safety & Health, Security, and Emergency Management instructional materials and training courses effectively in e-learning systems, webinars, classroom settings and self-guided instruction.
  • Responsible for the development and oversight of new online Safety & Health, Security, and Emergency Management modules and development of new instructional programs to be deployed into traditional training systems and alternative web formats (webinars, eLearning, online tutorial, and other electronic learning formats) that will address the needs of the enterprise and agency specific training and development needs.
  • Develop and oversee development and reporting of safety program performance metrics to support data-driven proposals, decisions and actions by the Safety Council and the Internal Safety & Health Program.

 

Qualifications

What we are looking for:

  • Working knowledge of WISHA and OSHA safety and health rules and regulations.
  • Technical specialist in the development and conducting of training programs, guidelines, presentations, workshops and publications, in the area of occupational safety and health for employees who conduct inspections for L&l.
  • Collaborative approach, ability to coordinate with others, share information, make decisions, and implement solutions to problems or complaints.
  • Strong skills in training and problem resolution.
  • Ability to analyze statistical data and reach a logical conclusion; develop methods and techniques for solving employers' health and safety problems.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task, set priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Have or the ability to obtain upon hire a valid driver license as you will travel to service locations and headquarters.
  • Expertise in SharePoint and Excel.
