Safety & Health Specialist 4

This position reports directly to the Regional Administrator and is responsible for the Internal Safety and Health Program in Region 4. The position serves as the central point of contact for regional safety and health issues and builds and maintains effective relationships with staff, supervisors and management.

Region 4 encompasses 10 counties; Mason, Grays Harbor, Pacific, Lewis, Cowlitz, Skamania, Clark, Wahkiakum, Klickitat, and Thurston. Within the region, L&I maintains 4 offices: Aberdeen, Kelso, Vancouver and Tumwater.

This position collaborates with other Internal Safety and Health Coordinators, central office program managers, and staff in directing the delivery of safety and health services within the two regions.

Duties

Some of what you will do:

  • Conduct research on current rules and develop updated requirements to respond to changes in industry standards, industry practices, technology and changes in injury and illness data.
  • Participate in developing, implementing and monitoring the Internal Safety & Health accident prevention program to ensure compliance with Washington Safety and Health Act (WISHA) rules and agency policies and procedures.
  • Provides technical advice and assistance to all levels of the agency on all aspects of the safety and health program.
  • Provide technical advice and assistance to program managers, supervisors, staff, committees and programs on all aspects of the safety and health program.
  • Work with the internal safety and health staff in the administration, implementation, and maintenance of records needed to comply with DOSH workplace safety rules.
  • Provide strategy, planning, and coordination with all regional safety coordinators to schedule mobile audiometric testing units. 
  • Conduct incident investigations with root cause and contributing cause analysis.
  • Coordinates and monitors the statewide L&l Hearing Conservation Program.

 

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
Demonstration of L&I Core Competencies for all employees with an emphasis on the ability and motivation to work independently with little direction in order to actively manage the safety program spread across 4 offices and 10 counties.

Desired qualifications:
Four years of experience as a Labor and Industries Safety and Health Specialist or Industrial Hygienist.

OR

A Bachelor’s degree and four years of experience as a safety and health officer, consultant, inspector, or related experience.

Additional qualifying experience will substitute, year for year.

Certified instructor for Medic First Aid CPR/AED.

Certified instructor for Defensive Driving.
