This is a salaried position reporting to the Environmental Health & Safety Manager.  This position creates value providing support and leadership with employees to foster an environment of employee ownership and engagement regarding Georgia-Pacific’s safety culture and vision.

A Day In The Life Typically Includes:

  • Providing support and leadership with employees to foster an environment of employee ownership and engagement regarding Georgia-Pacific’s safety culture and vision
  • Assisting in the development, implementation, and maintenance of the Company’s Health and Safety programs for the facility
  • Leading the utilization of the Hazard Identification and Risk Assessments (HIRA) process at the facility.  This involves leading hazard and risk assessment efforts and identifying/implementing corrective actions that appropriately reduce risk.
  • Leading the development and delivery of required regulatory training and work with facility personnel to increase awareness and actionable items to eliminate safety and health hazards and risks
  • Develop and facilitate a process to ensure timely completion of Facility and Department Risk Assessments and Safety Improvement Plans (SIPs)
  • Developing the mill’s capability to conduct effective incident investigations to identify root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence
  • Enhance the mill’s capability in improving fundamental safety programs.  Fundamental programs include, but are not limited to Confined Space, Emergency Response, Electrical, Safe Work Practices, Lock Out, Fall Protection, Incident Investigation, Mobile Equipment, Cranes and Rigging, Personal Protective Equipment, and Safe Work Permits
  • Performing ongoing evaluations/audits of safety and health programs to increase visibility of opportunities and provide floor level support and coaching

What You Will Need:
Basic Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Safety, a safety related field, Engineering, or other technical field
  • Three (3) or more years of safety-related work experience in a heavy industrial or manufacturing environment OR individuals that have successfully completed the GP Entry Level Professionals program
  • Experience and proficiency with Microsoft Office

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or have equivalent certification
  • Experience in paper manufacturing, converting and packaging automation
  • Experience establishing sustainable systems for compliance and continuous improvement
