Safety Supervisor

Georgia-Pacific’s Consumer Products division is seeking a qualified safety and health professional for a Safety Supervisor at our Port Hudson pulp and paper manufacturing operation in Zachary, LA. The Safety Supervisor will create value by assisting in development, implementation, and maintenance of the Company’s Health and Safety programs. This role provides leadership, coaching, mentoring, training, and development to advance the overall company safety culture and performance. 

Georgia-Pacific’s Port Hudson Operations is located on 1,350 acres in East Baton Rouge Parish, where more than 900 employees manufacture Brawny® paper towels and Quilted Northern Soft and Strong® bath tissue, as well as Spectrum® papers used in printing and laser and ink-jet printers. The mill also produces private label towel and printing papers.

A Day In The Life Typically Includes:

  • Managing competing demands which requires a strong process approach to work, strong organizational skills, teamwork and the ability to establish, communicate and adhere to priorities.
  • Managing up to five direct reports (safety specialist)
  • Designing, implementing, and leading safety and health programs, compliance strategies, and management systems.
  • Preparing and conducting required regulatory training and work with facility personnel to increase awareness of safety and health issues
  • Performing ongoing evaluations/audits of safety and health programs facility wide
  • Assisting in preparing internal corporate safety and health reports and recommendations
  • Participating in and/or leading incident investigations to identify root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Responding to site personnel for assistance and support on safety and health-related issues.
  • Assisting with the development of strategic plans to achieve short and long-term safety and health improvement goals.
  • Planning promoting, organizing, directing and auditing safety-related activities and operations. Ensuring the adherence of program procedures.
  • Advising management on problem correction.
     

What You Will Need:
Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher OR actively working toward the completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Safety and Health or related field.
  • Experience and Knowledge of federal/state safety regulatory requirements.
  • 5 years’ safety leadership experience in heavy industrial / manufacturing capacity
  • Experience using Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel, WORD, e-mail)
     

What Will Put You Ahead?
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Occupational Safety and Health, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Health Science, or related field
  • Experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
  • Experience and knowledge with OSHA outreach programs.
  • Direct report experience
  • Leading Indicators Management a plus.
