Staff Environmental Scientist / Geologist

This is an amazing opportunity for an up-and-coming Environmental Scientist or Geologist that is interested in learning and growing in the Phase II Environmental Site Assessment field. It is our hope to immediately hire an aspiring and energetic person that wants to learn quickly, perform professionally, and grow into an effective project manager.

The successful candidate must have a solid educational background and be self-motivated with a professional attitude. Must have a “can-do” and “hands-on” attitude with the ability to manage time effectively and completing deadlines. The candidate must also demonstrate effective communication skills, problem-solving skills, and organizational skills. The successful candidate will have experience with environmental field equipment such as PIDs, peristaltic pumps, and well gauging instruments, as well as experience with soil lithology, and collection of soil, groundwater, and soil vapor samples. Additional experience working around drill rigs such as a Geoprobe and use of submersible pumps, is preferred.

Between field work projects, you will work in a professional office setting, preparing detailed and accurate field documentation, data analysis and reporting. Led by a Senior Geologist with over 30 years of experience, you will be mentored to perform professionally and at a high level from day one.

You will be a member of the EHS Team which includes specialists in Indoor Air Quality, Mold Assessments, Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Safety, Training, Phase 1s, Phase 2s, Cooling tower management, and other related fields. You will have the opportunity to learn and work in many of these fields.

Primary Responsibilities:

· Contacting regulatory and municipal agencies and subcontractors/vendors to coordinate field activities and obtain project-related information

· Communicating effectively and efficiently with contractors, clients, and team members

· Subcontractor oversight

· Oversight of drilling operations including soil characterization and installation of monitoring wells or temporary wells

· Soil, groundwater, and air sampling in compliance with State and Federal standards

· Conducting site inspections and project related research (historic data, regulations, etc,)

· Evaluating field and laboratory data

· Data management, compilation and evaluation of data

· Writing drafts of field repots and other technical documents

· Figure/map/boring log production

· Writing and preparation of reports, work plans, letters, and memoranda

Typical Duties May Include:

· Planning subsurface explorations, including appropriate subsurface testing and investigation of soil, groundwater, and soil vapor

· Developing Work Plans for regulatory or municipal agency approval

· Environmental construction observations and oversight to ensure compliance with work plans

· Demonstrating creativity, foresight, and mature judgement in anticipating and solving both routine and usual field-related technical problems.

· Participates in developing corrective measures and procedures

· Reviewing technical specifications and related documents for proposal opportunities

· Provide additional environmental consulting activities as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s Degree in Civil/Environmental or Chemical Engineering, Geology, or Environmental Science

· 3+ years of relevant work is preferred – However, Entry Level is also possible

· Experience with Phase I and Phase II environmental site assessments a plus

· Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical capabilities

· Knowledge of soil characterization and groundwater sampling techniques a plus

· Must be proficient with MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint, to prepare technical reports and spreadsheet data entry

· 40 Hours OHSA HAZWOPER certification

· 30 Hour OSHA Health and Safety Card

· A valid driver’s license in good standing is preferred

· Candidate must also be able to meet the physical demands associated with performing field work, including lifting heavy equipment, working in a standing position for extended periods of time, etc.
